On November 4th, Google announced some important changes that may affect how flex workspaces claim, manage and engage with their listings on Google’s search results and Maps products.
Given that we help flex workspaces auto-update these listings (see here for when we recently introduced this time-saving automation), we wanted to quickly summarize what’s changing, and what’s not.
What is changing.
- 'Google My Business' is being renamed 'Google Business Profiles'
- Profiles can be claimed and managed directly via Search & Maps interfaces.
- The Google My Business mobile apps will be retired in 2022.
- Renamed 'Business Profile Manager' primarily for businesses managing multiple profiles.
- The API is renamed from 'Google My Business API' to 'Business Profile API'
- It should now be easier to complete verifications & resolve listing issues.
What is not changing.
- Claimed business listings won't need to be reclaimed.
- Integrations (like our Automation) that use the API won't break.

We’d recommend checking out the official notice regarding the renaming, this great guide via the Search Engine Journal, and keeping an eye on the changelog regarding our Google Business Profiles automation for flex workspaces.
